Calico Rock Music Hall Building Eligible for Historic Status
The two-color brick, craftsman style building soon to be occupied by the
new Calico Rock Music Hall, has passed the first step toward being listed on
the National Register of Historic Places. Rich Fischer, in partnership with
Charles Francis, recently submitted a Determination of Eligibility (DoE)
package to the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program for review and
authorization to proceed to the next step in the process. . . .which will
involve completing the necessary federal forms and the submitting them to
the National Register of Historic places.
“Given the age of the building, the unique brick architectural style, along
with the fact that the structure has undergone relatively few alterations over
time makes my confidence level very high that it will indeed be listed on the
Register,” Fischer said. “In addition, its proximity to the existing Calico Rock
Downtown Historic District which was listed on the Register in 1985,
increases the chances of this building also receiving historic status.” The
primary motivator for Francis’ initial acquisition of the building was to save it
from possible destruction, then restore and preserve it. “So far we are
moving forward according to plan,” commented Francis.
The Music Hall is scheduled to open its doors for the first time the evening
of Friday, May 4th. “The performers have been booked and we are excited
about having the public in for an enjoyable time,” said Francis. “Stay tuned
next week as details are released about who will be in the line-up and what
you can expect down the road.”
